RESCUE & RELIEF SERVICES
SOS Animales was formed with the mission to alleviate animals of their suffering. Here in San Juan del Sur, as well as similar communities across the world, there are many dogs roaming the streets. Many of these dogs have obvious health issues such as skin problems or broken limbs. But these dogs are usually not strays. It is common in areas of low socioeconomic status for families to allow their dogs to roam to find food. This obviously leads to mass overpopulation, because most of these dogs are not sterilized, but also leads to the spread of disease and injury due to car strike.
To provide relief to these suffering dogs, we find the owners and tell them about SOS Clinica Veterinaria and the subsidized services we can provide. Most pet owners love their animals and are genuinely unaware that there is something they can do to help their pets. We help these families learn about treatments and preventative care and then, hopefully, this will create a change in how that family cares fo their pets.
However, there are some cases where a suffering animal is without a home or is in a neglectful/abusive home that it needs to be rescued from. At this time, SOS Animales does not have an animal shelter. For this reason, we are limited in the amount of animals that we can rescue. We can only take animals off of the street or out of an abusive home if we have a responsible and capable foster home to put them in. Once these animals have recovered and are healthy, we put them up for adoption.
